  • 3 Reasons Why the Fat Won’t Go

Doing everything right but still finding it hard to lose the fat? Check out three common reasons why it’s been so tough.

    Food Intolerance

You’re eating everything you’re supposed to – eggs, fish, lean mean, nuts, fruits, vegetables, and heck, even gluten-free whole grains – but that bit of extra fat is still hanging around, literally. You may be intolerant to specific foods. A food intolerance causes a low-level inflammation, resulting in functional inefficiencies in the body.

Eggs, nuts, soy, wheat and /or dairy are the most common food intolerances, but keep in mind that any food can cause intolerance. Sucks, right? Eliminating these foods may be a sacrifice in the beginning, but your body (and waistline) will thank you. There are blood work tests and elimination diets you can undergo to determine which foods are holding you back from fat loss success. Make an appointment with you nutritionist today.

    Workout Adaptation

When it comes to workouts, consistency doesn’t necessarily mean intensity. Have you been hitting the gym for the past six weeks? Bravo! But if you haven’t seen visible results, then you need to either step up your intensity or mix up your workouts (or both)! Your body has a tendency to adapt to workouts if exposed to the same routine over a prolonged period of time. With strength training, aim to pump a bit more every week. With cardio, try high-intensity interval training.

It’s easy to get caught up in all of the scientific talk about the biological causes of stress, but in plain terms - stress doesn’t only rob your peace of mind, it robs your body of proper function. Sure, we’re not cavemen running from saber-tooth tigers anymore, but the body responds to stress in the same biological way. Major causes of stress in the U.S. include finances, unhealthy relationships, and work. And let’s face it - your boss might as well be a saber-tooth tiger.

Take some time to think about what causes major stress in your life. Is it an over-bearing family member? Is it unrealistic deadlines at work? Decipher what isn’t in your control and find out some ways to help manage stressful situations or people. Determine what is in your control and apply ways to prevent stress in the first place. It may look like setting healthy boundaries or cutting back on unnecessary expenses to pay down debt. Write down your findings – your body and mind will thank you in big ways.
