Outsmart overeating with these Turkey-Day tips!

There is a lot to be thankful for this time of year – family, football, and food! We all seem to marvel at the thought of what’s going be on the table Thanksgiving Day, but did you know that the average Thanksgiving plate contains 1,600 to 3,000 calories? If you toss in drinks, appetizers, and dessert, you can devour as much as 4,000 calories!

I know what you’re thinking, “It’s only once a year, big whoop!” Oh ye of little perspective. Any idea of how long it takes to burn that kind energy? You’d have to run 7 hours or lift weights for 10 hours just to break-even. We’re not trying to be the bearer of bad news here. You can still enjoy Thanksgiving just don’t overdo it. Here are some helpful tips to savor the season in a healthy way:

    Don’t Skip Breakfast

Think you’re saving room for that second piece of pie? Think again. Missing the first meal of the day slows down your metabolism and causes your body to store more calories for later. Plus you’ll avoid looking like a ravenous caveman by gorging at dinnertime. The morning-of, have egg-whites and grapefruit, or a small cup of oatmeal. Having a light breakfast is better than no breakfast at all!

Be a Picky Eater (But don’t piss off your mom.)

We’re not telling you that your plate should only be filled with raw vegetables – just be smart about what and how much you’re eating. The trick is to practice portion control. Enjoy bits of the bad stuff, and splurge on the good. And if you’re full when dessert is brought out, just take a small plate home to enjoy later – you won’t miss out if you don’t it any right then and there. Be Social

Be sure to make more eye contact with your family than the apple pie. It’s amazing when guys dive right into their plates the second grace is over. Don’t be that guy. Take your time – it’s not a race! Savor each bite. Chew your food slowly for better digestion. And by all means focus on your friends and family – Thanksgiving is all about spending time with them. Speaking of not being that guy, here is a YouTube video we think you’ll enjoy. Happy Thanksgiving!
