  • Part One - Am I ready for Prohormones?

    An informative guide to getting started in the world of enhanced body building
    Part One of Three
    In this new series I am going to talk about my experiences, what I've learned, and how I would do it if I could start over.

    Prohormones are amazing. It’s just that simple. Drastic changes in body composition in less than two months’ time. You can get half a year’s gains in a fraction of the time. So why wouldn't you use them? Well honestly, there are a few reasons not to use prohormones right now, but in the near future you will be ready to go.

    First things first, I want you to know what you are doing in the gym and in the kitchen so you don’t spin your wheels and get nowhere. People always say that you should get to your genetic potential before using prohormones so you can make the most out of them. I don’t agree with that argument. I think you should start using them when you are ready for it, and the only real way to know is to ask yourself some questions.

    Am I mature enough to handle a massive change in hormones?
    "Roid rage" isn’t a real thing, giving in to your emotions and being stupid on the other hand is very real. You need to realize that you are in control of your actions. If you think you are too unstable to stop yourself from beating the walls down when you get mad, or if you have a history of depression, prohormones probably aren’t for you. They don’t really do anything more than intensify your personality. If you are a generally calm cool person you should have no problems in this department.

    Am I a member of a tested sport?
    If you are currently in a sports league that has drug tests, prohormones may not be for you as they are banned substances. I won’t get into morality issues here of right or wrong that is for you to decide. There are certainly ways tested athletes use these substances in the off season.

    Is my liver healthy?
    If you are a regular drinking and a fan of pain medication, especially acetaminophen (Tylenol) you are not a great candidate for prohormone use. Prohormones are metabolized by your liver, which may cause damage. Having a healthy and functional liver before starting is vital and taking precautions while using these extreme supplements is important to safe cycling.

    Am I on a routine that is conducive to my goals?
    Are you trying to get bigger, stronger, or leaner? What are your goals? On your current workout routine, are you actually advancing towards these goals? You can’t out supplement a bad routine and you need to learn your body and what works for you before starting prohormones or you will just be wasting money.

    Is my diet where it should be?
    I am not going to be the diet police here and tell you to go all organic and natural. You should be eating the correct amount of calories, proteins, carbs, and fats to reach your goals. Where or how you get these nutrients are on you, just know what you are consuming and how it will help you achieve your goals.

    Am I an adult male?
    Finally, sorry ladies but prohormones are not for you. Prohormones are also not for children. These are for mature adults who know what they are taking will have immediate effects on their endocrine system that can be potentially detrimental if misused.

    Is my body fat percentage too high?
    Prohormones become much less beneficial with a higher amount of body fat. I personally believe that you should not cycle until you can at least reach a body fat of eighteen percent or lower. The amount of aromatization of anabolic hormones into estrogen increases dramatically based on how much fat tissue you carry. If you want to get below eighteen percent body fat quick so you can start using prohormones do this protocol I have one of my clients doing. He is entering week five of this eight week stack and he has gone from 245 pounds to 220 pounds, yet has gone up on all his lifts. He is in a caloric deficit, eating a 40/40/20 protein, carbs, and fat ratio diet and working out five days a week.
