Workouts are tough. They are not only physically tough but they can also require a certain level of mental toughness as well to battle through. Mental toughness takes some practice, but just like anything the more you work at it the better you become. Here are a few tips I have discovered to help to build your mental toughness and in return have your best workout yet!
Just Do It
We are our own worst enemies at times, but the key to gaining mental strength is to make yourself. Even if you don’t feel like working out JUST DO IT. Don’t give yourself an out and make it happen. The more you get yourself in the gym or outside the more it becomes a habit. By forcing yourself to go workout you are building your mental strength without even knowing it.
Mantras
Some people make think they are silly but create mantras that you can use in your head. Even if it is as simple as “YOU CAN DO THIS.” Yesterday as I was doing a track workout I kept repeating in my head “how bad do you want this!?” You have to find whatever works for you and keep repeating it. Sometimes it is the smallest things that can get you mentally through the toughest workouts.
Find Your Motivation
The truth of the matter is when you are truly motivated to do something you will do whatever it takes. Find what motivates you to push through and you will be surprised how far this can go for you. Mentally if you focus on what motivates you it will drive success.
Never Give Up on a Dream
I am always one who likes to set huge dreams for myself. I always have a big goal because it motivates me to never give up and keep pushing forwarding even when things get hard. Set your goals and keep focused! This will go a long way and will help you to get through even the hardest days. Dream big and never stop! It doesn’t matter how far you have to go.
Mental toughness just like physical toughness is something that has to be earned through training. It isn’t always easy but the more you push through the more you learn what it takes to get what you want. The more you see the results from your training the more it pushes you through. Keep working on it and keep your eyes on the prize!
